What Anchor Score Is
Official definition
Anchor Score is a financial wellness benchmark. It measures how financially prepared a person actually is — not a credit or borrowing metric. It's built on a patent-pending methodology developed by Finaptis Wealthtech Pvt. Ltd., an AMFI-registered mutual fund distributor (ARN-318892). The methodology itself is proprietary; what it measures, and why, is not.
What this means for you
Anchor Score is built for anyone who has wondered, even briefly, whether they're actually prepared — regardless of income or where they're starting from. The starting point is different for everyone. The priority underneath it stays the same for all of them.
Most people have never been asked a simple question directly: how much financial room do you actually have when circumstances change? Not guessed at. Measured, precisely.
Almost nobody has a clear, honest answer — not because they haven't tried, but because the tools that already exist to measure financial standing were never built to answer this question.
Why It Matters
Financial products have long measured one thing well: how likely a person is to repay debt. Credit scores, loan eligibility calculators, borrowing limits — an entire infrastructure exists to answer "can this person be trusted with money that isn't theirs." Almost nothing exists to answer a more basic, more relevant question: is this person's own financial position stable enough to absorb a shock.
Income and financial wellness are often assumed to be the same thing. They aren't. A person earning a strong income can still be one missed paycheck away from real difficulty, if nothing has been set aside. A person earning modestly can be well-prepared, if their reserves are solid. Anchor Score measures the second thing, separately from the first.
How It Works
Anchor Score measures financial readiness — how prepared a person is to hold steady when financial circumstances change. The current mechanism for that measurement is a person's financial runway: the length of time their liquid savings could sustain essential expenses without income, calculated using a Savings Security Index — liquid savings divided by monthly essential expenses.
Runway is the current mechanism, not the full definition of Anchor Score. It gives financial readiness a concrete, measurable form, rather than leaving it as a vague feeling of "I'm doing okay" or "I'm a bit worried."
The result is expressed as a score between 50 and 900, and classified into one of five Anchor States — Fragile, Cautious, Stable, Secure, and Resilient. Each state describes a level of financial preparedness, not a permanent label. Each is covered in full detail in its own article.
Regardless of a person's current Anchor State — even someone already doing well — the first priority is always the emergency fund. This is a structural decision, not one option among several: nothing built on an unstable foundation is genuinely secure, however impressive it looks. Wealth without a reserve is fragile wealth. The emergency fund is the principal current mechanism for improving readiness — not the definition of what Anchor Score measures.
What It Is Not
- Not a credit score. Anchor Score doesn't interact with credit bureau data, evaluate repayment history, or determine loan eligibility. It measures something adjacent but different — not whether a person can be lent money, but whether their financial position could hold up if circumstances changed, using only what they've already built.
- Not an investment advisory service. It doesn't offer personalized investment recommendations or tell a person which specific financial products suit their circumstances. What it offers instead is a mechanism — a structured way to build financial readiness, starting with an emergency fund, distributed through liquid funds on an execution-only basis.
- Not a static, one-time assessment. A person's Anchor Score reflects their position today, not a fixed verdict. As income, expenses, savings, and dependents change, so does the score.
Current Scope
Anchor Score doesn't provide personalized investment advice. Building an emergency fund is facilitated through mutual fund distribution — specifically liquid funds — offered on an execution-only basis, distinct from advisory services. Broader wealth-building guidance beyond the emergency fund isn't yet part of Anchor Score's current scope.
Anchor Score is offered by Finaptis Wealthtech Pvt. Ltd., an AMFI-registered mutual fund distributor (ARN-318892). Anchor Score doesn't hold or have custody of any investments; funds are held with the respective Asset Management Company. Anchor Score itself is a financial wellness benchmark, not an investment product.
What You Can Do
- See where you currently stand — get your Anchor Score.
- Understand your Anchor State and what it means for your position today.
- If your foundation is missing or weak, start with the emergency fund — the priority at every state.
Common Questions
Is Anchor Score the same thing as a credit score? No. Anchor Score measures financial readiness — how much financial room you have when circumstances change, currently measured through your financial runway. No connection to credit bureau data, borrowing history, or loan eligibility.
Does a low Anchor Score mean something is wrong? No. It reflects where things currently stand, not a judgment. Every score is a starting point that can move.
How is my score calculated? From your income, essential expenses, liquid savings, and dependents, expressed through your financial runway. Covered fully in How Anchor Score Works.
Can my Anchor Score change over time? Yes. It reflects your current position, and updates as your savings, expenses, income, or dependents change.
Does Anchor Score tell me what to invest in? No. What it provides is a mechanism for building an emergency fund, distributed on an execution-only basis — a structural pathway, not a recommendation engine.
Why does the emergency fund always come first, even for people already doing well financially? Because no other financial activity is genuinely secure without this foundation underneath it.
